Amarone is the King of Valpolicella wines. Made from the local varieties of Corvina (60%), Corvinone (20%), Rondinella (10%) and with a touch of Croatina and Oseleta sprinkled in. After picking the grapes for Amarone are placed in a drying room. They are dried for 60 days losing 30-40% of their moisture thus concentrating flavours. The skins are not pressed, just free run juice is used. Aged in barriques and large barrels for 30 months and then in bottle for a further 12 months. Such a spoilt wine requires a decadent name - "il Lussurioso" - The Lustful!
"Medium garnet colour, this wine is redolent with the aromas of Marakesh....musk, turkish delight and dried herbs. The palate is big and bold but with lovely acidity and a balance that belies it's heady 16.5% alcohol. A robust wine with an intense sweet fruit core that still has elegance and excellent length. Somewhat of a brute now that will see out 20 years"
