Anarchy Wines | Barossa Valley

One of the joys of making our own wine in the Barossa is that we are able to connect with some of the up and coming brands that are just in their gestation period as wine producers.

Last year when we were making wine in a co-tenanted facility in Tanunda we came across two guys, Dave Rushton and Zach Burton, who were handmaking Barossa reds in some pretty tiny quantities. Their brand is Anarchy Wines.

Dave and Zach share similar philosophies to us and are far removed from the normal Barossa winemaker trope. First of all they are Queenslanders with Zach still living on the Gold Coast, while David now resides in Tanunda and has a day job as Cellar Manager for iconic brand, Two Hands. Second they both hail from the Entertainment Industry and are absolute wizards at videography….their social media leaves the big brands in the dust. During vintage season, by day David supervises Two Hands crush of over 1000 tonnes, then after work and late into the night he manages the tiny handmade batches of Anarchy Wines that total about 5 tonnes all up.

And finally the last really interesting bit about this duo is that Dave is 5’6’’…. fully stretched……..while Zach is literally the only person I have ever met that is 7 feet tall! God’s Honour. Watching them work together during vintage is a source of some fun as a result.

The name Anarchy Wines has been carefully chosen. These guys want to disrupt every winemaking sacred cow that exists. No formulaic process to get a bog standard result……..this is gut feel winemaking, aligned with the best fruit that they can find to make the most delicious wine that they can.

The results are very good and we look forward to our association building in the next few years.
