1988 was such an exceptional vintage in Tuscany that Raffaele Rossetti decided to carry out his project of creating a unique wine, blending Capannelle Sangiovese with a Tuscan Merlot. The Merlot chosen was the Merlot produced by Avignonesi Winery in Montepulciano. 50&50 was born.  In my recent travels there I found it in many good restaurants and enoteca's around Tuscany and other regions. This is unusual as normally only wineries located within a 2km radius get a guernsey in Italian restaurants. It is a much revered wine in Italy and recognised as one of their best.
