Briony Hoare has spent several vintages in Italy....and it shows. Briony uses judicious skin contact to give this Italian varietal that texture and tone that is so reminiscent of Italian whites. This is not a quaff and forget wine, but a wine that one can ponder on as the finished product has so many complex facets. Another red drinkers white wine.....it makes you take notice and enjoy every mouthful.
"A white variety sourced from the hills of Avellino in the region of Campania in Southern Italy, this variety of grape is very new in Australia, with only a couple of vineyards in production at the moment. Greco is said to have been brought to Italy by the Ancient Greeks and is thought to be a distant parent of varieties Trebbiano, Verdicchio and Garganega. The variety has compact bunches, with small round greenish tinged berries. The grapes mature in late April, with very high acid, and strong citrus characters in the juice.
A crisp dry wine with a sweet lemon and lime aroma with a palate reminiscent of a liquid nougat and cashew butter, with gentle lingering tannins on the finish. This wine loves fresh oysters, whitebait and Mediterranean cuisine."
